Why we built this
We started building Stewardway after watching churches run on five or six different tools that never talked to each other — a spreadsheet for members, a separate app for giving, a group chat for the volunteer schedule, and a paper form for child check-in.
Every disconnect meant more manual work for already-stretched staff and volunteers, and more chances for something important — a pickup authorization, a pledge, a background-check requirement — to fall through the cracks.

Giving, separated from payment
A giving record is a distinct piece of data from the payment method used to make it — so adding a real payment gateway later doesn't require rebuilding how giving history works.
Child data, held more strictly
Child PII — allergies, medical notes, guardian contact — sits behind stricter access scoping than the rest of the app, and pickup overrides require a second staff member's confirmation.
Lapses degrade access, not data
If a subscription lapses or a plan downgrades, the affected features become read-only. Nothing is deleted just because a payment didn't go through.
